Dvoracek Memorial Library

The Dvoracek Memorial Library, which was dedicated in 1968, fulfilled the need for a public library in Wilber, Nebraska. The library was given to the city of Wilber by Milo S. and Lillian Stasny in memory of Mrs. Stastny's parents, William and Anna Dvoracek, and until recently, was entirely funded by the Stastny endowment. The library's proximity to the Saline County Courthouse across the street is ideal for genealogists and historians for accessing valuable resources in each location.

The simple lines of the building constructed of handchipped Indiana limestone, are enhanced by the park-like setting of stately oaks, hollies and evergreens, benches, a unique birdbath constructed of pebbles and a brick patio adjacent to the library.

Circulation and the catalog of 16,642 books, periodicals, audio books and videos is automated, which greatly facilitates the search for information and record keeping, as well as the ability to search external sources of information available through other libraries. There are plans for adding another computer with multimedia capabilities, thus keeping up with the benefits of modern technology.

Other special features include the Stastny Room, which is used by the community for educational and organizational meetings as well as art displays and children's programs.

The library is governed by a board of trustees, and managed by the librarian and two assistants.

Gifts and donations for the purchase of new books, equipment and programs are appreciated.
